Among enchanted stones up to the Rossomanno hermitage

Description

An easy trekking in the company of bizarre stone figures and surrounded by stories and legends spawned long ago by popular imagination. Final destination: the Rossomanno Hermitage!

The trail starts at the Ronza Park, Sicily’s best equipped recreational area. Your first encounter will be with the Dancing Pupi, also called Enchanted Stones. These limestone rocks shaped by wind are reminiscent of characters dancing in circles, the protagonists of stories and legends born out of popular imagination, as you will learn from your APP waypoints during your hike.

On your way to the Hermitage, you can also admire the archaeological remains and true geological rarities like fossilized oysters and other types of shells embedded on rock bottoms.

But the real peculiarity of this trail is its vast landscape, stretching from western Sicily with the Madonie Mountains and, in good weather, all the way to the distant peak of Busambra Rocca in the Palermo province, to the snowy and steaming summit of Mount Etna and the Hyblaean Mountains, in the Ragusa province.

Among other panoramic views is the Valguarnera Caropepe, a village of rare beauty that, over time, fell to several invasions. Finally, you will reach your destination, the Rossomano Hermitage, where the remains of a dilapidated Benedictine monastery will take your breath away.

Tell us the truth: did you expect such a special Sicily?
